Aland S Inaugural Office2ocean Charity Walk Raises 55 000 For Cancer Council

We have successfully raised $55,000 for the Cancer Council as part of our inaugural ‘Office2Ocean’ charity walk. An ALAND Community Projects Initiative, a group of 70 employees swapped work boots for walking shoes for the 12-kilometre scenic walk from our offices in Strathfield South along the Cooks River to Cahill Park in Tempe.

Our initial fundraising goal of $20,000 was exceeded thanks to the generous support of our community, including staff, family, consultants, contractors and associates.

I am so proud of the efforts of our team and partners to raise an impressive amount of money for the Cancer Council. We are excited to continue exploring ways to support the communities in which we live and operate.

We’ve grown considerably in the past two decades, and we recognise the importance of giving back to the local communities that have supported us for so long.

Our Community Projects Initiative is an invaluable opportunity for ALAND, and our employees, to volunteer time and resources to local families and communities. We nominated the Cancer Council as our chosen charity due to the positive impact it has on the Australian community.

This cause is close to our hearts as many of us know someone whose life was affected by cancer. Cancer Council Community relations manager Renee Piper joined us on the day and let me know that it was a great event and commended our team’s fundraising efforts.

“These community-based initiatives go such a long way in terms of raising awareness and valuable funds.

“Particularly after COVID [sic] halted events for two years, we are incredibly grateful to ALAND for voluntarily getting their team together and organising an event to raise significant money for a cause as worthy as cancer,” Ms Piper told me.

Employees from all departments including sales, realty, human resources, construction and development were welcomed at the finish line with a barbecue at Cahill Park.

Due to the pandemic, it has been a while since we have had the wider ALAND team come together. It was great to get all our teams off-site to bring them together for the day to enjoy some fresh air, health and fitness while supporting a great cause.

Through the Community Projects Initiative, we demonstrate that we are a valued member of the community, build mutual trust and respect with local residents, have the opportunity to improve and add to local facilities outside of our site boundaries, and foster positive relationships with our neighbours. I look forward to finding new ways to support and connect with the community.

Andrew Hrsto is the founder and director of ALAND.
