Hiring Is Thriving With Australia Seeing A 719 Increase

Aussie employers seem to be in a growth mindset, as hiring across the country has seen significant increases lately.

In fact, across Australia, there was a whopping 719 per cent increase in hiring during 2023, according to the State of Global Hiring Report by Deel.

Not only are organisations hiring domestically, but many are also expanding their recruitment overseas. The research found that Aussie businesses saw a 126 per cent spike in hiring employees from Vietnam and the UK.

The US, UK, and Philippines were the top three countries where domestic hiring boomed the most. Meanwhile, the US, UK, and Canada were the top for hiring remote workers from Australia.

The most popular professions across Australia for recruitment were software developers, engineers, customer support staff, sales staff, graphic designers, and accountants.

The era of remote working doesn’t appear to be slowing down either, with 85 per cent of Deel’s contracts being for remote positions.

Further compounding this data was a decrease in terminations. Globally, there were 52 per cent less involuntary terminations in November 2023 compared to January 2023.

“Domestic hiring by organisations in Deel’s biggest countries, including Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, rose this year,” said Deel ANZ country leader Shannon Karaka.

“At the same time, the number of involuntary terminations globally has dropped. These trends suggest a bright year ahead for the Australian hiring landscape.”

Deel’s research seems to show nothing but good news for the recruitment market, as salaries in most areas across the world saw either an increase or remained average. Teaching/e-learning sales, software engineering and content were some of the professions with the greatest increases.

Mr Karaka continued: “Deel’s latest data indicates that despite a loud focus by many employers on return-to-office measures, global, remote hiring continues to climb and is expanding beyond technical roles to those like sales, customer support and content.”
